Ralph Greenleaf started billiards just two years ago. He has since become a top player in the game. He has been to three different cushion billiards tournaments. He also placed in the top 10 of the Illinois 3-cushion Billiards Tournament last month. He has been attending a local club for billiards in the Twin Cities each month.
Nguyen Qyet Nguyen (Tran Quyet Chien) and Tran Quet Chien (Nguyen Quintyet Nguyen) are the two most highly ranked Vietnamese billiards player. These two players are among the top ten in the world. Both players are currently among the top 8 with Tran Quet Chien being number 7. Both players are the tournament’s defending champions. Ngo Dinh Nai is ranked 29. Jeremy Bury from France ranks number 18.
On December 20-22, the 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Continental Cup in Vietnam will take place. Eight top Vietnamese players will compete in the tournament. The total prize money is approximately 160,000 USD. Other events and tournaments will be held throughout year.
The United States Billiard Association, (USBA), is the official governing organization for carom and billiards. The National Championship is one of the many events held each year by the USBA. The USA will represent the USA at Pan-American Championship as the National Championship's top two players.
The three tournaments of cushion billiards at Madison 3-Cushion Billiards club were highly competitive and closely contested. Two flights of six players each were fielded in the tournament. The tournament was handicapped so only the top five players from each flight reached the semi-finals. $7,400 will be awarded to the top 12 players. Bruce Venzke, a cue game legend, was the tournament director.
UMB (Union of Billiards and Carom Billiards), the world's official governing body of 3-cushion, sponsored the tournament. UMB organizes several recurring tournaments every year. You can find a list of upcoming events on the UMB Turnier Schedule.
This tournament was held in the south province of Binh Duong and featured eight teams that battled over three nights. The top two teams will move on to the semi finals. The third and fourth places will go to the quarterfinals. Single elimination will be the final round. The winner of the Las Vegas World Cup 3-cushion billiards tournament will win a cash prize of $20,000. This is the first time the Vietnamese have sent a representative to the semi-finals.
3-Cushion Billiards Tournament, although a relatively new game has seen great popularity all over the world. It has also been featured in the animated Disney short film Donald in Mathmagic Land. It was also featured as a character in Seven Billiard Tables 2007, a Spanish film that won the Goya Award.
