The official snooker ranking system ranks players based upon their recent performance. It is administered by World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. This listing is updated at the end of each ranking series. To be eligible for the World Snooker Tour a player must hold an current snooker world ranking. Based on their performance in tournaments and ranking, players are seeded.
The snooker world rankings were established based on results from three World Championships, the World Open, UK Championship and the Professional Players Tournament. Each of these events gave one seed to the winner, while the runners-ups received two. From 1976 to 1982, the World Championship was the only ranking competition. In 1982, the International Open was the fourth ranking tournament. As competition grew, so did the number of tournaments.
During this time, the World Championship knockout format saw a re-introduction. This is considered the birth of modern snooker. Most records are now based on records that date back to 1969. There are currently 31 titles on this snooker rankings list.
Ray Reardon, the undisputed snooker king, was in the 1970s. He won six Welsh amateur titles consecutively and was also the World Champion. He was the first to win a ranking event, the 1974 World Championship. He had a record of ten ranking titles, which he held until Steve Davis's 1998 victory. However, he later retired from Snooker.
Stephen Hendry is one of the most prominent players of the 1990s. He held the number one ranking for eight straight years and claimed seven world titles during that time. He currently shares the all-time rank titles list with Ronnie O'Sullivan. But he is retiring from snooker after the 2012 championships.
Judd Trump, currently world ranking snooker champion, is his name. His other accomplishments include being named the snooker players of the Year. However, he hasn't yet broken the top spot. He was one point behind Mark Williams when he started 2019. Both players will face off in the finals of the 2020 UK Championship and the Cazoo Masters.
Kyren Wilson is another big name in the rankings. He is a professional, who specializes in the Premier League. He is a sports tipster who enjoys playing in both the NBA and MLB. He also enjoys playing in the NFL, MLB, and NBA. He has been a winner of four ranking finals in his two previous seasons. There have been two losses.
Mark Selby, four-time World Champion, has been defeated in the World Championship semi-finals. He has also suffered from high-profile defeats throughout his career.
The fourth Indian Open World Ranking Snooker Tournament will be held from September 12 to 16 in Visakhapatnam, India. Several celebrities will be there to watch the action. Entry to the event is free.
