Having only started a couple of years ago, billiards enthusiast Ralph Greenleaf has already become one of the country's best players. He has been to three different cushion billiards tournaments. He also placed in the top 10 of the Illinois 3-cushion Billiards Tournament last month. He also regularly visits the Twin Cities' local billiards clubs every month.
Nguyen Queyet Nguyen is the Vietnamese player who is ranked second and third in billiards. Both of them are ranked among the top 10 in the world. Both players are currently ranked in the top eight, with Tran Quyet Chien ranked number seven. Both players are the tournament's defending champions. Ngo Dinh Nai is ranked number 29. Jeremy Bury of France is ranked number 18.
The next tournament in Vietnam will be the 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Continental Cup, which will be held on December 20-22 in Seoul. The tournament will see eight of the best Vietnamese players compete. The total prize pool will be approximately 160,000 US dollars. There will be many other events throughout the year, in addition to the tournament.
The United States Billiard Association, (USBA), is the official governing organization for carom and billiards. The USBA conducts a number of events each year, culminating in the National Championship. The USA will be represented by the two top players at the Pan-American Championship.
The three cushion billiards tournaments held at the Madison 3-Cushion Billiards Club were very competitive and well-contested. Two flights of six players each were fielded in the tournament. The tournament was handicapped so only the top five players from each flight reached the semi-finals. $7,400 will be awarded to the top 12 players. The tournament was sponsored by First Business Bank of Madison and the tournament director was Bruce Venzke, the famous cue games legend.

The tournament took place in Binh Duong, a south province. It featured eight teams who battled for three nights. The top two teams will move on to the semi finals. The third and fourth places will go to the quarterfinals. The final round will consist of single elimination. The Las Vegas World Cup 3-cushion pool billiards tournament winner will receive a $20,000. cash prize. This is the first appearance of a Vietnamese representative in the semi-finals.
3-Cushion Billiards Tournament might be new, but it has grown in popularity throughout the world. It has also been featured in the animated Disney short film Donald in Mathmagic Land. It was also featured in Seven Billiard Tables, a 2007 Goya Award-winning Spanish movie.
