There are several rules that govern service and the proper use of the shuttlecock. To win a badminton game, you must be familiar with these rules.

The most important shot of a badminton rally is the service. This shot is only possible once and will result in a points for the receiver. This right can only be earned in official BWF game play by the receiver by winning a rally.

There are many service rules depending on what game you're playing. The most obvious is the fact that you can't touch or serve above the net. You can only serve diagonally across or under the net. You cannot hit the shuttlecock more than once in a row.

Rules of the BWF also state that you shouldn't serve in an incorrect way. If the score of your match is even, you can serve on the right side, and vice versa if it isn't. You cannot serve from any court outside of the white borders.
